Hello everybody! During this term, we will work on the topic: Communicative Competence (CC). Do you really know what it is? CC is the ability not only to apply the rules of grammar corrrectly but to use utterances appropiately(Hymes, 1972). The acquisition of CC in a foreign language constitutes one of the aims of the society today. So, teachers´trainees are called to manage all the aspects that it entails.

  4. I think in relation to the text and the comments made by my colleagues Miurglys and Liliany, communicative competences are each of those competences that we all develop in a cream to manage and use a language other hand if you think these competences are related to social behavior and we must adapt our expressions and our language to different situations presented to us.

  5. In my opinion Communicative competence is about the skill the people must to have to use the language in a correct way. always taking into account grammatical knowledge of syntax, morphology, phonology and the like, as well as social knowledge about how and when to use utterances appropriately.
I am not agree with lilianni because the communicative competence is not only refers to the ability to speak, there are many other aspects involves, like make correct sentences according to the context. on the other hand, I agree with Patiencia when she said the communicative competence " It is the ability not only to apply the rules of grammar corrrectly also is The acquisition of language in the society today"

  6. The Communicative Competence (C.C) is to have a balance between the four elements of the C.C, for example we should to apply in correct form all grammatical rules, we should to have fluency in the discourse, we need to take in count all the elements around of the social culture and we need to develop the strategy communicatives for apply it.

  7. On my opinion i think "Communicative Competence" is the application of others characteristics in the development of a language "Not only the grammar". I'm agree with Leily's opinon because she says that we have to make a balance between some elements very important in the communicational process. On the other hand we need to know that "all depends of the context" and the sociocultural topics also are very important as an communicative alternative.

    1. According to the material the notion of communicative competence was examined by various groups of researchers: for example Canale said about the communicative competences “It is the ability to use appropriately all aspects of verbal and non-verbal language in a variety of contexts, as would a native speaker" (Canale 1983).

This is refered about the comunicative competence permit that the speakers can comunicate appropriately and be understood by the members of society or of community although it is not their native language, of course speakers must need use the component: grammatical competence, discourse competence, sociolinguistic competence and strategic competence (By Liliani Campo).

  9. Communicative competence refers that speakers of a language need to have more than grammatical competence in order to be able communicate effectively in a language; they also need to know how language is used by members of a speech community to accomplish their purposes.

  10. Communication is a process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols, signs, or behavior
I believe that CC is defined as the to use the language system appropriately in any circumstance.
Canale and Swain maintained a useful opinion; they use three dimensions called; grammatical, sociolinguistic and strategic competence. They were explained before, and in my opinion these dimension are the correct way to describe the communicative process because eve through a speaker have the ability to communicatively competent that.
I am trying to said is even through a speaker get to communicative or exchange information with other, without the grammar knowledge of a language it`s correct use in social contexts and without the ability to express information in a correct way She does no use necessary the communicative skill (reading, speaking, listening and writing) in effective way.

  12. The communicative competence is just the ability to use the language correctly and appropriately to accomplish communication goals. The desired outcome of the language learning process is the ability to communicate competently, not the ability to use the language exactly as a native speaker does.

  14. I think that tha Communicative competence is called the ability to understand, develop and interpret the various communicative events, taking into account not only explicit or literal meaning, what is said but also the implications it has on our lives. When a user of the language properly handle sounds, grammar, vocabulary and their meanings and uses it in a socially appropriate for a specific purpose, is said to have "communicative competence."
Is to successfully participate in a communicative interaction with solid thoughts, structured, and achieving the proposed objectives. It involves the appropriation of the language proficiency of individual type (knowing the language used in speaking or writing) to find use in social life, such as communicative competence.

  15. well about the material communicatve competence is the linguistcs knowledge to narrowly to mean knowledge of grammatical form and more specifically of syntax , knowing a languege.

and we need more than grammar knowledge for speaking and understanding a language , since there are certain rules for using a language and without knowing them, the rules of grammar would be useless.

  16. Communicative competence typically refers to how well someone is able to communicate with others, though this can be elaborated upon and further refined in a number of ways. In general, this fairly simple idea is often seen as having three basic steps involved in it, which are planning communication, understanding how to communicate, and being able to communicate. This process includes two major components: the message used to deliver an idea, and the meaning that is actually delivered by that message. Communicative competence is important for anyone who wishes to be able to communicate clearly, especially public speakers and people learning a second language.
The idea behind communicative competence is that the ways in which people communicate can be analyzed and considered with regard to effectiveness. Someone is often considered competent, at least on a surface level, if he or she can talk to someone else in a way that is appropriate and which conveys meaning in an accurate way. This actual process, however, is often seen as being composed of three basic steps that occur in communication. Planning is a vital part of communicative competence as it demonstrates that someone is able to think about communication ahead of time and prepare for it.

  17. According what I have read Communicative competence is a theory based on two words ( KNOWLEDGE and ABILITY) The authors of this theory were Dell Hymes , Canale and Swain. It has to do with communicative properties of language and it’s functioning in social contexts; also with second language acquisition. According to Dell Hymes we need more than grammar knowledge for speaking and understanding a language, since there are certain rules for using a language and without knowing them, the rules of grammar would be useless. To be a person communicatively competent imply not only to know the grammatical rules or structure of sentences but also it is important to know, when (situation ), where (place or circumstance), and to whom(person) we use these sentences. A person communicatively competent has the ability to produce and understand correct, syntactic, lexical and phonological forms of a language, this or that person is able to use a language appropriately in social context, and also have the ability to transmit information in an effective way to a listener or reader, including the ability to use communication strategies to solve problems which arise in the communication problems. 1. I'm agree with Maria Isabel because the communication is a form of social interaction and involves a high degree of unpredictability and creativityin form and message. A person has the ability to produce and understand many strategic of the communication, as well as social knowledge about how and when to use utterances appropriately. Is very important to keep in communication the following subcompetences: Linguistic competence, pragmatic or discourse competence, sociolinguistic competence and srategic competence. This help to improve the affectiveness of communication. Hildemary Sierralta

  18. Communication competence is the degree to which a communicator’s goals are achieved through effective and appropriate interaction. The Communicative competence is the ability to interact well with others and refers to accuracy, clarity, comprehensibility, coherence, expertise, effectiveness and appropriateness . A much more complete operationalization is provided by Friedrich (1994) when he suggests that communication competence is best understood as "a situational ability to set realistic and appropriate goals and to maximize their achievement by using knowledge of self, other, context, and communication theory to generate adaptive communication performances.
When we communicate we transmit (as by speech, signals, writing, or behavior) information (thoughts and emotions) so that it is satisfactorily received and understood. Human beings do not exchange data–we understand information. Communication researchers refer to the process as “sharing meaning” and prefer to define communication as “the management of messages for the purpose of creating meaning.”
From this perspective, the knowledge is produced between speech internalized the grammatical rules of a language and rules for appropriate use in social contexts.

  19. According what I have read about communicative competence, what I could understand in simple words about it is that we need to know more than grammar to be able to communicate effectively in a language but, we need to know how language is used by members of a speech community to accomplish their purposes. Grammatical knowledge is not enough to help us to participate effectively in communicative situation. In addition to acquainting oneself with the forms of language, one must know in order to communicate appropriately the socio-cultural relation including the attitude, values, conventions, prejudices and preferences of the people who use the language, the nature of the participants which shows the relationship between the speaker and the listener, their occupation, interest, socio-economic status, the rule of the participant, such as the relationship in social network, father – son, teacher – student, boss – subordinate, landlord – tenant, doctor – patient, the nature and function of the speech deals with whether it is a face to face talk persuasion, confrontation, or a casual conversation, or a request informal situation, or a telephonic conversation, the mode (medium) of communication, whether spoken or written form or reading from a written script, or unprepared speech.

Dell Hymes says that one who studies language should be able: “to account for this fact that a normal child acquires knowledge of sentence not only as grammatical but also appropriate. He or she acquires competence as to when to speak, when not and as to what to talk about, with whom, when, where, in what manner”. Erylin Mercedes Soto.
